USNS John Glenn (T-ESD-2)
USNS John Glenn (IMO 9647526) is a Military Sealift Command (MSC) Montford Point-class Expeditionary Transfer Dock (ESD)* ship launched in 2013. It is a semi-submersible vessel that was designed to act as a sea-going platform that would facilitate the transfer of military personnel and assets from deep-draft vessels to smaller vessels able to operate in shallow waters.
The ship is named in honor of the late John H. Glenn Jr. (1921–2016), who was a distinguished United States Marine Corps officer, aviator, NASA astronaut, and politician.
