Anuanua Moana (2007)
Anuanua Moana (IMO 9352224) is a Cook Islands-based research vessel operated by Moana Minerals and owned by Kiva Marine, which is a subsidiary of Ocean Minerals.
According to the Ocean Minerals website, the company’s mission is to “provide the world with critical minerals that are needed to allow the move away from high-carbon fuels” by “mining the seafloor for polymetallic nodules…in a way that minimises [the company’s] impact on the environment and has a positive impact on the Cook Islands community.”
Polymetallic nodules are also known as manganese or ferromanganese nodules, depending on their composition.
