Mystery Vessel
Does anyone have any information (name, history, etc.) about this vessel?
She is tied up in the Willamette River near the Cathedral Park Boat Ramp and according to various sources she has been there for a while.
A friend who took a look at the photo said she looks like an old US Navy Fleet Ocean Tug.
Any leads? Please comment below.
This is one of the Army 149-foot steam powered tugs from WWII. She was originally LT 822, which at some point also wore the Army name PVT NANTI J FIORI. The Army sold her out of reserve in 1965 and she was bought by Tidewater Barge Lines of Portland OR and documented as CAPTAIN BOB (ON 298418, IMO 6517445). Tidewater never activated her and reported her scrapped in 1974. Closeup photos of her hull show this number in welding bead and confirm her identity. I’ve seen no information about who has been responsible for her since then.
Aloha George!
Thank you so much for the information! I have a friend who lives in the Portland area who is curious about her as well.
