Falls of Clyde – July 2023 Update
Sigh.
Déjà vu.
Once again, there have been a number of news reports about DOT Harbors seeking to remove the Falls of Clyde from Honolulu Harbor. Her status as a National Historic Landmark has helped stay the process so far.
Maritime Hawai‘i hopes that Falls of Clyde – International will be able to have fruitful discussions with Governor Josh Green, MD about returning the ship back to Scotland, rather than towing her out to sea and scuttling her or breaking her up.
Here is the link to a previous Maritime Hawai‘i post regarding the ship’s part in the history of Hawai‘i:

Incidentally, there was a story published just last month about old ballast stones from ships that were being used as pavement blocks along Nu‘uanu Avenue. Unfortunately, the city had them removed and dumped in a landfill.

Such a shame that things that have historic value are discarded so easily due to lack of oversight.
Here is a post about historic sidewalks from Peter T. Young’s Ho‘okuleana website:
It would be a shame for the state to discard Falls of Clyde without working with Falls of Clyde – International.
What a shame. Those balastro stones could have been reused in other projects, like schools or churches or even private homes. I do not live in Hawaii, but if I did and knew about it, I would have either bought some or carted them away for a future project.
