RMS Queen Mary (1936)
Queen Mary is an ocean liner that was built by John Brown and Company and launched in 1934. She was originally part of the Cunard White Star Line (merger of the Cunard Line and the White Star Line) fleet and, subsequently, the Cunard Line fleet after Cunard bought out White Star’s share of the company.
During World War II, she was converted to a troop ship. After the war was over, she returned to service as a passenger ship until she was retired in 1967 after her last voyage from Southampton, England to Long Beach, California.
The ship was bought by the City of Long Beach in 1967. She is currently a tourist attraction, which features hotel rooms, tours, exhibits, restaurants, and event facilities.
Queen Mary is listed on the United States’ National Register of Historic Places.
