Aloha Intrepid Dragon II
Chinese junk Intrepid Dragon II was removed from the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor and hauled aground just outside Honolulu Harbor in preparation for disposal.
According to her listing on the WoodenBoat website, she was built in 1969 at the Woo-Ying Shipyard in Hong Kong.
I was a captain aboard this ship in mid 1973. We sailed from Connectcut to St Maartin. Is there any news of her logbook?
Aloha David,
I haven’t heard anything.
I have it somewhere … text me … David 808-389-8476 … what happed to her was a criminal act by the State of Hawaii etc.
this is a sin. my father, Jack Roberts (an American), commissioned and built this boat in 1969. she was so beautiful. i am appalled that she was not cared for after he sold it after sailing her around the world in the early 70’s. to destroy her is to destroy history and art. i was not close with him, but this is also an end of an era for me. it is very upsetting. i still am in procession of many photographs of her in her prime and newspaper articles.
with a bit of sadness & grief… Robin Flinn

Aloha Dave,
Hey, I was cruising around Google Earth this evening and noticed the Intrepid Dragon II was no longer at her berth in the Ala Wait Harbor.
Then I saw the pics of it being hauled out and leaning on her side. Very, very sad to see this …
I will text you with more thoughts and a few questions. Reflecting very fondly of the times spent on the Dragon. I am so sad to see what happened.

Hello, I read your message written 2 years ago regarding the Intrepid Dragon II . I lived on this yacht in Hawaii during 1991-1996. I have lost all but one picture of her. The one picture I have is of me sitting on the bed. The beautiful Dragon headboard is in the picture. You mentioned that you have pictures of the boat. I would Love to have a copy of these pictures. Will you send me a copy.
I think my father, Roy Williams was skipper on this ship in the 70’s any information would be greatly appreciated expecially photos.

I lived on the boat for a while in 93’ and it was roach infested and David who was a youth hostel boss let kids stay on if they worked on it but if you woke up at night it was scary you would put sticky tape everywhere and in the morning hundreds of roaches would be caught.
That boat was beyond saving!!
