Red Dolphin began her life in 1981 as Tamure, a glass-bottom catamaran which was owned and operated by Captain Beans’ Cruises out of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i Island.

After the tragic murder-suicide involving Captain Beans’ Cruises owner, Beans Beans, in April 1983, Roberts Hawaii purchased Captain Beans’ Cruises in the summer of 1984. The company continued to offer day and dinner cruises on board Tamure until January 2008.

Tamure was bought by KanDoo!, a company that planned to provide ocean recreation activities in the waters off Waikīkī. She was refitted and renamed KanDoo Island. KanDoo Island was based in Kewalo Basin and anchored offshore to provide the base for the company’s activities. Operations began on 4 August 2009. However, the company shut down 13 days later due to its inability to make the necessary insurance and payroll payments.

KanDoo Island was moved to Honolulu Harbor on 18 August 2009. She was put up for public auction in February 2011. She was purchased by businessman Bob Norton for a new ocean activities venture, Waikiki Ocean Club. He changed her name to Red Dolphin.
