Kahi – Same Vessel, Different Name
Kahi was originally named Clean Islands and was operated as an oil spill response vessel (OSRV) by the Clean Islands Council (CIC). After the CIC ceased operations, the vessel was put up for sale in 2018. Her new owner renamed her SOS Minnow, which elicited a few chuckles at the time.*
Kahi is currently owned by Cates Marine Services, a marine salvage and services company.
*SS Minnow was the name of the charter boat which ran aground on an uncharted desert island during a storm, setting the scene for the 1960s sitcom, Gilligan’s Island.
