Falls of Clyde

Falls of Clyde in Honolulu Harbor just off Sand Island. Hawaiian Tug & Barge’s tug Mamo is at her stern. 21 August 1998.
The Falls of Clyde was built by Russell and Co. at Port Glasgow, Scotland. She was launched on 12 December 1878 (141 years ago). She was originally a full-rigged ship but was later converted to a barque.
Happy Birthday, Old Friend.
There has been very little news regarding the fate of the ship. As 2019 draws to a close, Maritime Hawai‘i hopes that 2020 will be a positive one for this tough iron lady.
I thought of her sailing, so hopeful and proud,
—Cicely Fox Smith (1882–1954) from “The Ould Has-Been”
The dawn on her sails like a mountain of cloud;
I thought of her battles, none stouter than she,
With the strength and the rage of her rival the sea.
