Navatek II in Trouble
Navatek II, which is currently tied up to a pier in the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor, took on water and was discovered listing to port on the morning of Saturday, 11 May 2019.
She was brought from Honolulu Harbor to the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor, where her berth is designated as a temporary one. Her current owner has attempted to find a new berth for her, without success. As a result, the vessel has been impounded as of 21 March 2019 by the State of Hawai‘i (DLNR-DOBOR).
Navatek II is what is known as a SWATH vessel. This refers to her unique twin-hull design, which allows for more stability in rough waters. Navatek I and the University of Hawai‘i’s research vessel Kilo Moana are also examples of SWATH vessels.
