Falls of Clyde – 7 February 2019
The dreaded day has arrived.
The State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Transportation – Harbors Division has issued the “Notice of Public Auction for the Sale and Disposition” of the Falls of Clyde.
This is so terribly sad. However, it is, unfortunately, not unexpected.
Here is a copy of the notice: Notice-of-Public-Auction-FOC-2-7-2019(1)
She has seen so much over her 140 years, with a great deal of luck on her side. Has her luck finally run out?
*Caption on the back of the postcard reads “NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK, FALLS OF CLYDE Built in Scotland in 1878, the Falls of Clyde served Hawaii for some two decades (1898–1920), first carrying raw sugar to be refined and later as an oil tanker. She was rescued from intentional sinking by the people of Hawaii in 1963 and is now restored and in residence at Hawaii Maritime Center. Photo by Mark Fay”
