Newspapers for Hawaiian Sailors Far from Home
While the whaling bark E.F. Herriman was off port last Monday morning, a Hawaiian sailor on board named H.L. Nawaa, sent a message, through the officer who came ashore, to Mr. J.U. Kawainui, editor of the Ko Hawaii Pae Aina, asking him to kindly furnish him with old native papers, for him to distribute among his fellow companions in the Arctic regions. His request was graciously fulfilled. Here is another way of advertising Hawaii throughout the polar regions. (The Honolulu Advertiser, 28 January 1891.)
Ko Hawaii Pae Aina was a Hawaiian-language newspaper published from 1878 through 1891.
