Port Conditions – Hurricane Lane
With the proximity of Hurricane Lane to the Hawaiian Islands, news outlets have been referring to various port conditions used by the United States Coast Guard.
The Port Conditions are set by the Captain of the Port (COTP) and are as follows:
Seasonal Alert (V): Seasonal readiness, 1 June – 30 November.
Port Condition Whiskey (IV): Gale force winds (34 knots / 39 mph and above) are expected to arrive within 72 hours.
Port Condition X-Ray (III): Gale force winds are expected to arrive within 48 hours.
Port Condition Yankee (II): Gale force winds are expected to arrive within 24 hours.
Port Condition Zulu (I): Gale force winds are expected to arrive within 12 hours.
Port Condition Recovery: The storm has passed and is no longer a threat. Emergency response and recovery operations are in progress.
