Time to Move the Boom

A PENCO workboat passes Pier 9 on the way to Pier 2B to remove the boom encircling the NCL cruise ship Pride of America and Kirby barge Ne‘ena. Honolulu Harbor. 17 March 2018.
When a bunker barge is used to fuel a ship in the harbor, a boom is placed in the water around both the ship and barge. In the event of a spill, the boom will contain the fuel and keep it from spreading out over a larger area. This PENCO boat is used to deploy and retrieve the booms.
